How long have you been a licensed massage therapist?

24 years.

How many hours of training do you have?

750 +

Why did you choose massage therapy as your career?

Like many therapists, massage comes naturally to me. (As a child I always gave my parents foot massages.) I’m a tactile person, kinesthetic learner and genuinely care for others. When I was 18 I received my first massage and thought “This is it, I want to do this!

Where did you go to school for massage?

Austin School of Massage Therapy

How do you describe your massage/work to others?

My touch has been described as intuitive and healing. I employ the various techniques learned throughout my career with anatomical knowledge to provide effective and relaxing release. My work is focused but also holistic. The body is a complex interconnected system; a complaint of tension in one area often has its origins in another. I enjoy ferreting out the source to provide lasting relief to my clients.

What are some examples of Continuing Education you are interested in and why?

Active Release Therapy interests me because it seems really effective at breaking up scar tissue.

I do a lot of trigger point release in my work & would be interested in studying Neuromuscular therapy to deepen my knowledge of the nervous system. I’m also interested Reiki, Lymphatic drainage, and craniosacral the list goes on and on!

How has receiving massage affected you personally?

I love how massage therapy makes my body, mind & spirit feel connected. In the hands of a good therapist a very special space of holding is created that’s unique and lovely. It’s so healing inside & out. I love being in that state & attending to it for others.

What do you do to stay healthy?

I try to eat well, love hiking, Pilates, yoga, spin, and playing with my children & dog. Meditation is key. At the end of each day I try to spend 15 minutes doing a full body stretch routine. I try to do it religiously as it really improves sleep & keeps the body from being cranky.

What do you like about working at Myo Massage?

Everything! It is professional but not pretentious. The owners are earnest, sincere, and genuinely care a great deal for their clients & employees alike. As therapists themselves they cover all the bases and provide an excellent environment for their employees to do their best work. It’s a real honor to work alongside such seasoned and committed therapists.
