Feldenkrais Functional Integration®
The Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education uses gentle movement and directed attention to explore habitual movement patterns and discover more efficient, graceful and pain-free ways of moving. Private Feldenkrais lessons (called Functional Integration® or “FI”), are hands-on lessons that are tailored to your specific challenges, needs, and goals. During a lesson, the practitioner finds the persistent movement and posture habits that may be interfering with what you want to do and causing you harm and discomfort. You are manually guided through your habitual movements and, as the compulsive firings of your nervous system are quieted, you’re then guided through alternative movement patterns. An FI lesson induces a wonderful sense of comfort and ease. Lessons take place with you lying on a low padded table, but you may also be sitting or standing for part of a lesson. The lessons are done with you fully clothed in comfortable, unrestrictive clothing. If you have serious pain, injury, or disability, you may want to try these private lessons before trying group Feldenkrais classes (also offered at MYO.)
